Monticello College was founded in 1835 as the Monticello Female Seminary. It closed in 1971. "Monticello College Library" bookplate on front endpaper of each volume, with "Withdrawn" rubber stamps on endpapers, title pages and page edges. Some library markings. Some rubbing and minor marks to boards. Some marginalia and underlining in volume four. Volume four with a 1" tear and 1/2" chip to blank margin of one leaf (pp. 43-44). ; All four volumes are numbered "466" of an edition of 500 copies. These four volumes are the complete work "Memoirs of Napoleon Bonaparte" by Bourienne. They also form volumes 7-10 (only) of the 16 volumes of Napoleon issued by The Napoleon Society in 1895 (vols 1-6: Hazlitt; 7-10: de Bourrienne, 11-16 Memoirs of Madame Junot.) Rebound in green cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 208 x 133mm. Volume One: xlix, [3], 449 pages + frontispiece + 5 plates. Volume Two: xvii, [3], 468 pages + frontispiece + 5 plates + 2 folding tables. Volume Three: xviii, [2], 483 pages + frontispiece + 6 plates. Volume Four: ix, [3], 488 pages + frontispiece + 4 plates. Captioned tissue guards present to all plates and frontispieces. Volume One preliminaries include: Preface by the editors of the 1836 edition (2 pages); Preface by the editor of the 1885 edition (12 pages); Author's Introduction (7 pages).
